Calling all dancers (and audience members) who dream of sugar plums, nutcrackers, and magical snowflakes! On November 17, SF Ballet is hosting two master classes at our rehearsal studios—one for dancers ages eight to 14, and one for dancers ages 20+. Experience the magic of Helgi Tomasson’s Nutcracker from this inside perspective, while learning the beloved choreography!
Comment below with your favorite Nutcracker variation (or post on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, tag @sfballet and add #Nutcracker75) and you will be entered to win a free spot in one of the following master classes (as a participant or observer, depending on age and ballet experience):
At 11 am, SF Ballet Principal Dancer Sasha De Sola will lead intermediate and advanced dancers ages 20+ in learning variations from some of the most memorable choreography from our production.
In the afternoon, children ages 10–14 who are currently training in ballet can get a glimpse of what it is like to be at the Stahlbaum’s Christmas party. SF Ballet School Faculty member Kristi DeCaminada—who coaches the children’s roles in Tomasson’s Nutcracker—will guide them through some of the ballet’s beloved children’s roles.
Want an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the choreography from Nutcracker and the craft of dance instruction? Both of these master classes are open to observers ages eight and up. Children eight through 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
