When Helgi Tomasson decided to create a new Nutcracker for San Francisco Ballet in 2004, he turned to Martin Pakledinaz, a frequent collaborator and close friend, to design the costumes. Pakledinaz’s costumes perfectly reflect the 1915 San Francisco setting of Tomasson’s Nutcracker, preserving the traditional feel of the ballet while adding notes of whimsy and magic.
In 2017, SF Ballet graphic designer Francis Zhou sketched paper dolls based on Pakledinaz’s designs. First up is the Clara paper doll–keep an eye out for the Prince, coming soon!
